Hello from Madison

Madison, Florida

Wow, finally I got a night with eight hours of straight sleep -- shocking.  Have you ever noticed sleeping in feels the best on Sunday mornings? In case you didn't know, these nights are rare in my world because I start my work day somewhere around four am every day.  I am blogging from the road right now actually over at my parents farm in Madison, Florida, a town so small that if you blink you will drive right through it.  We are off from work at the radio station til Tuesday morning so I figure what the hell, might as well come visit the folks, I never make it out here. So I packed my over night bag, left the house about 3 pm and made the two hour trip straight over on interstate ten and here I was, Madison, Florida.

My parents land is on some acreage out in the middle of no where, definitely not for a city boy like me. It's one of those places where you have to drive 20 minutes in each direction to find a store, gas or existence of anything but animals.  Of my life, I spent a year out here working at a country radio station in Valdosta, Ga. (which is a few miles north of here) and it was very challenging for someone always used to the hustle and bustle. But even someone who is used to going non-stop, nature has a way of slowing you down, in moderation.

Lots of Dirt Roads

When I woke this morning I went for a walk on the back of my parents property and it was freaking cool.  They have a 10 acre lake that has a bunch of lily pads in it with fish, also a couple of cool trails that my siblings ride their four wheelers and just knowing your miles away from civilization gives you a great feeling. It's definitely outdoors at it's finest and very peaceful.  Sitting here I have no clue what I am going to do today..... thinking seriously about heading to the flea market in Valdosta or Lake Park, Ga.  In Jacksonville we have a flea market on the west side of town called the Ramona Flea Market and it's a riot to walk around and look at the services (aka crap) some people sell.

One thing I have realized during my trip is that I have a hard time not being connected (iPhone), which is sad because everyone needs to unplug sometimes but I guess I do when I cruise. I ll have to write sometime about my $568 cell phone bill at sea!

Im actually living in Madison county right now. Im a city girl at heart as well. Born in Brooklyn NY. Lived on Long Island, then to Jacksonville
Florida now here. It is peaceful, nature infested, quiet and a good nights sleep is pretty much guarenteed. The beauty of it is Valdosta Georgia is 20 mins away, Talllahassee is 50 mins away, and the ocean less than 2hrs. away. With all the city life at arms reach I can enjoy my” ruralness” without a doubt….Laura
