Are You a Dreamer?

Sitting here listening to my iPod, a song came on my play-list that I haven't heard in at least 10 years.  The song I am talking about is by Garth Brooks and its called 'The River.' You know how sometimes you really don't pay attention to the words of a song, well that's me 99% of the time. I can count on one hand how many times a song has struck a chord with me (no pun intended).  Well tonight was one of those nights.  I was responding back to a listener email and the chorus of this song hit me and I was suprised that this was the first time.

And I will sail my vessel 'til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind, these waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination, if I never try
I will sail my vessel, til the river runs dry.

Over the past couple years I have considered myself to be somewhat of a dreamer or visionary.
Why be a Dreamer?  A few reasons come to mind.

  1. You will find your true calling.  So many people are sitting behind their desks right now hating their job and just working for the weekend. Find your niche and pursue it. You don't have to quit your day job to do it. Rome wasn't built in a day.
  2. Connect to your inner self. Not to sound all philosophical but you being happy is what life is all about, right?
  3. You will achieve what you are looking for.  Just the satisfaction of saying you did it.  You could be miserable right now, after chasing your dream, BOOM, happiness.
  4. You open the door to endless possibilities.  We can use my Cruise Radio site as an example. I have folks contacting me all the time wanting me to review their hotel or cruise line. Today I got an invite to a city in the Midwest that's expense paid because the city is doing a media familiarization week.
  5. Because you can.Yes, that is a fragment but it's true. You can be whatever you want to be in this life.  Didn't your parents teach you that?
  6. To be successful.  Self explanatory.
  7. To have something to brag about at your class reunion (kidding, partially).

Don't be fooled, there are a lot of naysayers out there and a majority of the times its because they are jealous.

Dreams are a good testament to motivation.

Can you say that you have accomplished a dream?

Great post. Funny how songs can just hit us with their message. Lots of good stuff to think about.

Funny you talk about songs. One of my favorite is, “Forever Young” by Rod Stewart. I played that song with a powerpoint slide show of my daughters life in pictures at her high school graduation. Our family, including me, were in tears. I will play that with added pictures at her wedding someday. Regarding dreams..I have always hoped I would have the opportunity to make significant money. Hopefully with an opportunity I have now working with an incredbile internet and travel entrepreneur , it will happen. For more info about his website..be sure to visit http://www.cruiseradio.net

Henry David Thoreau said it well: “Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them”.

Henry David Thoreau said it well: “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation”.
